Description
An account of the resource
This Scrapbook contains a wealth of newspaper clippings relating to the constantly changing programme of Pickard's Casino Cinema, dating from approximately between 1912 and 1916. Tickets admitting entry to various Glasgow cinemas can also be found, as well as a humorous article relating to an escaped bull entering La Scala Picture-House. Also present is an article detailing Pickard's being honoured by the city carters for allowing them to use the Panopticon for meetings during their strike, as well as a short, presumably semi-autobiographical, story entitled 'The Millionaire's Gratitude'.

Description
An account of the resource
Article describing in detail the features of Pickards new cinema at Shawlands Cross named The White Elephant. Interesting is the mention of the innovative new approaches the cinema takes in developing traditional cinema features. The cinemas seating, for example, is said to have replaced the standard springs under the velvet withlayers of fine rubber with shock absorbers below. The article also discloses that the new cinema houses two restaurants across two floors where one is still able to enjoy the music of the 11-person theatre orchestra, or if desired, use theneatly arranged shutters to mute the sound.
